Maces, Mongoose, and Mounts

I dinged 77 last night which of course means Cold Weather Flying finally. What a relief it is to be back on an epic flyer zooming around the continent. It also means that when flying out of Dalaran I don't have to take the long way around on the flight path--I can hop on my mount and directly head off in the right direction.

We also did The Champion of Anguish and I snagged myself a Crimson Cranium Crusher. Going from the sleekness of Vanir's to this honking mass of stone and steel is going to take some adjusting (mentally). Replacing my first epic was a bittersweet moment. It clearly out-powers, out-dpses, and out does Vanir's Right Fist of Brutality. I was sad to see the badge weapon that I worked so hard for, but was comforted by the fact that I had it the day that 2.4 went live and definitely got my money's worth. Of course this also meant that I had to level my mace skill from 92 to 385! I did manage to hit 382 by the end of the night. Those last few points are always the hardest (axes are next).

The real question though is Mongoose. It is still viable at level 80 or do the procs scale back like the did with Crusader from 60 to 70? I couldn't find anything on mmo-champion, wowhead, or Elitist Jerks that said the Agi and Hit boosts from Mongoose were lower or that the procs were less. Since I couldn't find anything contradictory I figured I'd have to test it myself. One of our warriors swore that the PPM was significantly reduced so I downloaded Procmeter and set it to look for Lightning Speed. Through the rest of the night in Grizzly Hills I got a consistent 6.5% chance to proc. I'll keep an eye on this as I continue to level and see if the proc rate goes down. Unfortuantely what I did not check was whether or not the Agi buff remained at 120 or if that is scaling downwards. I'll check that today and post findings in the comments.

EDIT 1:26 PM: CONFIRMED Mongoose still grants 120 Agi per proc above level 70. Mongoose is fully viable in WotLK.

    Heroics!
I finally hit 80 last night, and we ran a couple heroics (Violet Hold and Drak'tharun). Here's a summary of what I found:

DPS: We can still rock it. I ran with our best tank, healer and two of our better dps'ers from the guild. One is a shad priest, the other a BM hunter. I couldn't quite keep on trash, but on boss fights I tore it up. I was averaging somewhere around 2200 on each fight.

Gear: There are a couple of bits that you everyone will have access to as they level (SB, you might want to link up this list... I'm not so saavy).
-Crimson Cranium Crusher. See Rich's post. It looks like you could tip over at any time, but it is perfect for WF.
-Saronite Shiv. BOE OH that I made myself. It has 55 hit and 20 expertise. It's fast, so FT becomes the staple for sure now.
-Chain of the Tolling Bell. It's a quest reward from Borean Tundra. I got it early on, and it perfect for us.
-Band of Motivation and Kurzel's Rage are both quest reward rings. One with hit, one with expertise.
-Swiftarrow Gauntlets and Dragon Stompers crafted.
-Belt of Tasseled Lanterns is a world drop I snagged in the AH.
-I actually found that my ZA shoulders were better than the BT ones I had before because the value of sockets has gone up.

Glyphs: Because I have a fast OH and run FT, I go with SS, WF and FT glyphs. I use the FT one because we can get pretty deep into the elemental tree now with 5 points in Elemental Fury. A third or more of our damage can now come from spells.

Threat: I'm an aggro-hog again (that's the clean version). Windshock saves the day, but gotta use it. Hitting a 5k WF crit followed by a 6k LB crit will get someones attention.

We've always been a great source for raid buffs. I was concerned that our dps would be down so much that we would be just buffers. This is not the case at all it seems!

Here's the lootrank link you requested. Maybe you can pretty it up? I suppose I should learn some html.

    Jaron's Loot Rank Link

    Grats Jaron on 80!

Great list there. Interesting call out on the Saronite Shiv. I haven't looked into it yet but will do so tonight. Swiftarrow is good stuff, I'm having the gauntlets made, but my BT boots are still topping out rewards and blue crafted gear. There's another chest other than the swiftarrow I'm having made but I forget now that it is...

I reran my EP calculations using my non-hit set and found them to be COMPLETELY different than the Elitist Jerks' numbers. I recommend everyone runs EnhSim themselves to calculate their own EP values along the way.
